Well, I am once again at that time in the school year. The time that I have to think ahead to the upcoming year/years. Since my daughter will no longer be homeschooled, that leaves one left in the nest. He will be a freshman next year, so not only do I need to be thinking of this coming year, but the next four in order to meet our needs and goals accordingly.
I am actually pleasantly surprised this year. There is very little to purchase compared to years before. And, honestly, if I wanted to simply skate by with standard content, I could get by without purchasing a single thing more for the upcoming year and some of the years to come. However, the whole beauty of homeschooling is to tailor to each individual child. And, having only the one left at home to teach, and only a limited of years left to do it and enjoy, well, I want to make the most of it. The fun thing about teaching my son is that he likes to work with me on school. Not that he wants me to "do it for him", but he just likes sharing the topics, so it is an exciting time for me to consider the next four years with just the two of us. I know I am likely dreaming, but I, once again, find myself dreaming of the fun days sitting together enjoying the sheer joy of learning. I did that before. Years ago. When I first started this journey, in fact.
Somewhere along the way, it has lost some of it's luster and shine. Somewhere along the way, it has turned into something that we just have to do. I don't want that to be the feeling that my son takes from school and learning. So, I am really hoping and praying that we will be inspired and find the joy of learning once again. I know I still have it for me. I am a lifetime student, so to speak. Self taught, sure, but constantly learning and seeking new knowledge. I hope to have at least ONE of my children feel the draw to broaden their minds beyond what is required!
I have been searching online for different ideas and curriculum. I have found a few interesting things. One is that there are a few places that will simply send you their curriculum if you ask for it! No, not the big namers, but I tend to avoid them anyway. More like the smaller, topic specific foundation type institutions. When searching the internet, think, simple specific terms. You may throw in the term "free" as well, just for fun :) That is always a nice bonus!
I am hoping that you all find exactly what you are looking for in order to not only meet the needs required of you and your students, but to fit your budgets, and to inspire a love of learning while growing a relationship between yourself and your children to last a lifetime!!
(Hint: you may want to start with my growing list of links when searching.)
